This article provides further detail about the expiration dates of Second Extracts you have purchased on the DCS. For a guide on how to process requests purchased under Second Extract Permissions Service, see Second Extract Permissions Service content in the DCS.
Expiry dates and rollover
When you add a request to the DCS that you have purchased using the Second Extract Permissions Service, the DCS will add an expiry date for the request:
Second Extract Permissions Service requests can be used for the duration of one academic year, so the expiry date will automatically be set to the 31st July, however, you can change this to the end of September if you require the request for longer (for example, for students resitting exams).
You will receive a notification on the DCS dashboard when these requests are due to expire within the next 90 days. You can see these requests under the ‘Licence’ section of the dashboard:
Rollover does not affect the status of requests covered by Second Extract Permissions Service. If the content link is live before rollover this will remain live after rollover.
When to renew
Once your request has passed its expiry date, be that in July or September, the content link will break. If you wish to continue to share the request you will need to purchase further permissions for the next academic year and student contingent. The Second Extract Permissions Service is not fully integrated into the DCS. You can add content purchased through the service to the DCS to show the increased extent limits. But to renew the purchase you will have to do this via Check Permissions.
