The DCS lets institutions see if another HEI has already copied the extract they wish to use. The inclusion of a repository of content already loaded by HEIs saves you time having to source content and make your own scan. However, if no copy is available, or you do not wish to use any of the existing copies, you can upload your own scan to the DCS.
When you are creating a content request, you will see an ‘Add document’ button within the Source Content section:
Click Add Document to upload your own scan.
Note: You can also order a scan from EHESS. For more information about this, you can read this article.
Upon clicking ‘Add Document’ the below form will appear:
This will show information about the colour scale, source format (scanned from print or digital).
There are also a number of optional accessibility features you can choose to add here. These are optional.
- OCR
- Tagged for reflow
- Alt-text
If you are not sure whether the content item has reflow tagging or alt-text applied, you can choose "Don't Know" from the drop down, or leave it blank. The DCS will then scan the content for you and let you know if these accessibility features are present. If you choose "Yes" or "No" from the drop down, the DCS will not scan the document.
Once you have completed the form, select Click to locate PDF file. Once you have selected your PDF, click Create and when the document has uploaded successfully, you can Select to use this scan by clicking on the radio button next to the item you’ve just uploaded.
Please always make sure to preview the scan before you continue, to ensure there are no issues with the PDF uploaded. To do this, click the actions menu (3 dots) at the far right of the table and choose” Preview file:
You are now able to generate a link to your content.
You can also leave an internal note about the scan. The notes section can be found at the bottom of the content request page
Please note: If you do not have the PDF ready to upload yet, you can click away from the content request screen, and this will save the request in Requests in Progress under the label Pending Licence or Assigning Content’. For more information about Requests in Progress click here
