Contacting the British Library
If you place an EHESS order in the DCS, but want to cancel it, this must be done through the British Library. They have advised that this must be done as soon as the order is placed, by emailing them directly at e-hess@bl.uk, and CC’ing CLA at support.dcs@cla.co.uk After 24 hours, it will not be possible to cancel an order.
When contacting the BL, please mention your BL order number - which can be found in two places in the DCS:
Click onto Requests in Progress, then click on the order which will take you to the Content Request page.
The BL order is on the Content request page.
In your EHESS report, find the request ID in column F and the EHESS order number in column G.
Cancelling Orders on the DCS
To cancel your order on the DCS, scroll down on the Content Request page to the Source Content section – next to the EHESS order you would like to cancel, click the three dots menu there should be three dots. Select this and click ‘View order,’ this will then take you to the EHESS order page.
To cancel an order, click ‘More actions’ on the top right-hand corner and click ‘cancel’ and this should process the cancellation.
Then a pop-up window should appear asking if you are sure you want to cancel the order; you then have the option to click ‘Back’ to cancel the cancellation, or click ‘Yes, cancel' to fully cancel the order.
Please do not just cancel the order in the DCS, as this might lead to delays in notifying the British Library and the order will not be cancelled on their end. This means you may still be charged for the order.
If the reason for cancelling is that, the quality of the scan is bad quality, or you’re unhappy with the scan received, please click ‘Report a Problem’ in the request in the DCS instead of contacting the BL to cancel. They will then be able to provide you with a new scan. You can read more about how to report a problem here.
Please contact the BL on customer@bl.uk if you have any questions about their cancellation policy.
