In DCS 1, we had reports of Publisher Supplied content (formerly known as Born Digital) generating incorrect page ranges. So, we have implemented a Range Checker to help solve this problem.
How to use the Range Check feature
First, verify that the Publisher-supplied extract includes the correct page range.
To do this, click the menu at the end of the row in Publisher Supplied sources and choose Preview file.
If the page range is correct, you can exit the preview and generate the link as normal.
If the page range is incorrect, you can come out of the preview, select the piece of content by clicking the radio button at the left-hand side of the row, and choosing Range Check from the menu:
The range check will open the file in the same tab as the Content Request. You may need to wait a moment for the file to open – bigger files will take longer.
Here is a breakdown of what you are seeing in this Range Check page:
Top banner:
From left to right:
- Collapse the left-hand thumbnail page list view.
- Tab through the work, page by page.
- The starting page of your extract. Changing this number and clicking Enter will take you to the page number in the extract.
- Zoom in and out of the text itself.
- Rotate pages.
- The page range you have selected in your content request. Note: this range will not change, even if you make changes to the page range here. As with much of the DCS, this is trust-based, so we trust that if you do make changes here, it is purely to match the range to the pages you wish to use, not to extend the number of pages you are using.
- If you wish to make changes to the page range, you can do so in the PDF page range numbers box.
- Once you have made changes, you will have the option to save or cancel. If you do not make any changes, both buttons will be greyed out.
- Please click the “X” to exit the Range Check viewer. Note: please do not click the Back button in your browser.

This section includes a thumbnail of every page in the book. All pages are watermarked, and you will see that the pages you have requested are highlighted in blue:
Changing your page range
There are a couple of ways you can change your page range in the Range Checker:
- Select/deselect the relevant page ranges in the left-hand thumbnail page list column
- Amend the page range in the right-hand PDF pages numbers box. Note: Pressing enter after changing these numbers will save the page range and bring you out of the Range Check and back to the Content Request. So please avoid pressing enter until you are happy that the page range you have selected is correct. You can then either press Enter or click Save to go back to the Content Request.
Once you have made the necessary changes, please click Save to save the new range, or Cancel to discard any changes made.
